Write Way Publishing
Case Study: Scalable B2B Publishing Ecosystem
Project Overview
WriteWay Publishing is a boutique independent publishing firm that provides end-to-end services for authors, ranging from editing to marketing. Their business model is designed to offer more control and profit retention than traditional publishing while providing more professional guidance than standard self-publishing.
Primary Services
WriteWay Publishing structures its offerings into three main phases to help authors transition from a manuscript to a released book.
- Book Editing: Professional services focused on shaping the message and refining the story for maximum impact.
- Book Publishing: Comprehensive development and formatting assistance, including book layout, trim size selection, and professional cover design.
- Book Marketing: Assistance in building buzz and hype through early readers and strategic launch plans to ensure sales continue beyond the release date.
The Challenge: A complex B2B2C requirement involving three parallel workstreams: a central marketing hub, a Laravel-based manuscript submission engine, and a scalable WordPress Multisite network for authors.
The Goal: To bridge the gap between technical data submission and front-end content delivery while automating manual bottlenecks.
Innovation: The Automation Pitch
During the discovery phase, I identified a critical inefficiency: author websites were being created manually, and the parent domain links remained blank until manually updated.
-
The Pitch: I proposed and implemented an automation bridge between the Laravel App and the WordPress Multisite API.
-
The Result: When an author’s manuscript is approved in Laravel, a formatted “Author Site” is automatically provisioned through a REST API, and the parent domain’s “Featured Author” section is updated in real-time.
Technical Execution: The “ACF Pro” Strategy
To ensure the client (a non-technical) could manage the B2B complexity without developer intervention, I utilized ACF Pro (Advanced Custom Fields) to create a custom data-modeling layer.
Solution: Built a bespoke UI from the ground up for book metadata, author bios, book lists, and associated company services.
Impact: Empowered the client to update 100% of the site’s dynamic content, reducing maintenance tickets by 60%.
Project Architecture & Ecosystem
- Writeway Publishing: The central brand hub built on WordPress.
- The Laravel Engine: A custom application for manuscript submission and author data management.
